The Bainbridge Post, a weekly newspaper, was established by E.H. Pat Griffin in 1907. In 1915, Griffin acquired the assets of The Searchlight, founded in 1898, from Russell Brinson. The newly combined newspaper would be The Post-Searchlight and also incorporates the assets of a number of earlier Decatur County newspapers, including The Weekly Tribune, The Globe, and The Democrat.

In 1933, S. Marvin Griffin, the founder’s son, was named publisher of the newspaper. He held this post until 1972, save a four-year period from 1955-1959 when he served as Governor of Georgia. His son, Sam Griffin, was named publisher in 1972 and served in that capacity until May 2008.

Bainbridge Media, LLC, a newly created company owned principally by key executives of Boone Newspapers, Inc., purchased the newspaper and an affiliated printing plant from Griffin on June 1, 2008.
