The Albert Lea [MN] Tribune joined forces with others in their community to create a Little Free Library program.

The Little Free Library is a series of book collection sites where anyone can borrow a book to read, with no time limits and no late fees.

Little Free Libraries aim to promote literacy and a love of reading by building free book exchanges.

A structure is put together to house the books, and people are invited to exchange a book for one of the others inside the library, wherever that library may be.

In the case of the Tribune, their little library just so happens to be an old newspaper rack that was repurposed as a “little library.”

The Tribune held a grand opening at the Tribune’s office for their library on Monday, Aug. 1.

The grand opening included unveiling of the library, and all of the great books inside . The event also included a book swap, crafts, story time and prizes.

According to littlefreelibrary.org, the purpose is “to promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations.”

In an effort to continue promoting the program, the Tribune is building a map of all the library locations for a future publication.
