Located on the Chattahoochee, Lanett is referred to as the “Gateway to Alabama” and is one of the most picturesque spots along the river. Located in the eastern portion of the state, the area serves as one of the hubs of economic and industrial needs for Chambers County.

Lanett borders the states of Alabama and Georgia in Chambers County. The city is located approximately 90 minutes southwest of Atlanta, and 30 minutes north of Auburn.

Climate
The South is known for its warm, humid summers and the Valley area certainly has its share. However, the rest of the year is quite seasonal, with the area enjoying complete, fall, winter and spring weather, as well. Summer’s average high is in the mid- to upper-80s. Mild winters with occasional cold snaps make the area ideal for many residents. The Valley area typically receives about 50 inches of rainfall each year and occasionally a trace of snow.

Education
Lanett is home to the Lanett School System, which includes two elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. Neighboring Lanett is the Chambers County school district, with 11 schools stretching from elementary to high school. A plethora of private school options are available in the city and county as well.

Interesting tidbits
The city’s name is derived from Lafayette Lanier and Theodore Bennett, founders of the West Point Manufacturing Company. Also, Chambers County has been the back drop for several movies, including Mississippi Burning.
