A recent episode of the popular television show ‘Jeopardy!’ featured a clue highlighting the achievement of Buford Boone, father of Boone Newspapers, Inc. chairman Jim Boone.

Buford Boone won the 1957 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing while publisher of the Tuscaloosa (AL) News. He was recognized for his “fearless and reasoned editorials in a community inflamed by a segregation issue,” according to the prize description. “An outstanding example of his work being the editorial entitled, ‘What a Price for Peace,’ published on February 7, 1956.”

Under the category “Pulitzer Prize Winners,” the clue (for $400) read, “Though these are traditionally unsigned, the Pulitzers usually name the recipient, like Buford Boone of The Tuscaloosa News.” The correct response, offered by current champion Amy Schneider, was “editorials.”
